Judges' Comments:

"Body Image" uses a clear, direct, strong tone to challenge mainstream narratives of body image. The poem's metaphors and imagery, though, complicate that tone, fighting with connection. It's this tension between fight and connection that propels the poem. For example, in the image of "wrought iron gates" we see a voice owning the authority to shut out but also allow in.
