Description, Abstract, or Artist's Statement
During winter 2015-2016, students in History 369: Oral History completed many interviews with residents of Clinton, Iowa about the 1979-1980 strike at the Clinton Corn Company plant. Using these interviews, students completed this set of three short films in conjunction with the Clinton Public Library and the Sustainable Working Landscapes Initiative of Augustana's Upper Mississippi Center for Sustainable Communities. The films explore the process of making corn syrup in the factory, as well as the 1979-1980 strike's violence and communist allegations. The resulting familial tensions and loss of union power also feature.
